# Disk Map > Disk Map is a free, native macOS app that shows what's taking up space on your Mac as a treemap and table, and plans how to free the space you need: lossless steps first, then things apps rebuild, and your own files only if you choose. No ads, trial, account or analytics. Made by Vikom Media in Vancouver, Canada. Key facts: - Price: free. No ads, no trial, no account. - Platform: native SwiftUI app for macOS 15 Sequoia or later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. - Download: https://diskmap.app/downloads/DiskMap.dmg (the direct download updates itself through Sparkle). - Who it's for: anyone whose Mac is running out of space and who wants to know why before deleting anything. - How it differs from other disk space analyzers: besides the map, its Space Advisor plans how to reach a space goal, starting with steps that lose nothing; it shows what deleting really frees when APFS copies share data; nothing happens until you press Apply Selected; and nothing you scan leaves your Mac. ## Features - Treemap and sortable table: every folder is a tile sized by the space it takes; click to go inside. - Space Advisor: pick a goal (such as 25 GB, or Max safe) and it pre-selects the cheapest steps. First lossless ones: cloud files kept online only (Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, iCloud Drive), duplicate files merged into APFS clones, and the Trash. Then rebuildable caches, installers for apps already installed, and build output. Your own files (old videos, downloads, unused apps) only if you choose; they are marked "Your call". Every suggestion shows why it is safe. Nothing happens until you press Apply Selected, and anything moved to the Trash can be put back. - Space Freed by Deleting: APFS clones share data, so a copy counts in full on disk but deleting it frees only what isn't shared. Disk Map shows both figures. - Changes: each scan is compared with the last, so what grew stands out. - Disk breakdown: macOS, swap, local Time Machine snapshots and purgeable space, each with its size (the parts macOS Storage settings count as System Data). - Kinds: space by kind of file. - Live updates: folders fill in during the scan and keep up as files change. - Menu bar: free space always in view, and opt-in notifications only when they matter (about to run out, or a big sudden drop). - Projects: suggestions grouped by project, and any project, kind of suggestion or item can be hidden with one click. - Ask AI: sends a condensed report (names, sizes, dates, never file contents) of the folder you're looking at to an AI agent already on your Mac: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or Grok in Terminal, which can look through your folders and ask before changing anything, or Claude, ChatGPT or Grok in a new chat. - Privacy: no analytics or tracking. Nothing leaves your Mac unless you send a report to an agent yourself. Full Disk Access is optional; without it, protected folders are skipped. ## Pages - [Home](https://diskmap.app/): what Disk Map does, with screenshots and FAQ - [Disk Map vs DaisyDisk, CleanMyMac and GrandPerspective](https://diskmap.app/compare/): a fair comparison, including OmniDiskSweeper and macOS Storage settings, and which to use when - [How to free up space on your Mac, safely](https://diskmap.app/free-up-space-on-mac/): finding what takes space, what System Data is, and the order to free it in - [Privacy Policy](https://diskmap.app/privacy/): what the app and site do with information - [Terms of Use](https://diskmap.app/terms/) ## Optional - [Full text for AI assistants](https://diskmap.app/llms-full.txt): the facts above plus the FAQ and comparison in plain text - [Update feed](https://diskmap.app/appcast.xml): Sparkle appcast with release notes - Contact: support@vikom.io
